Valentine's Dance

Hilltop had its first ever Valentine's Dance last night for Pre-K through 2nd grade. The students got to enjoy dancing, pizza and drinks, cookie decorating, and several other fun activities during the dance. Here are a few of our students who attended looking absolutely adorable in their dance outfits. We all had so much fun!

Bring Your Own Device - Technology in the Classroom

We had our first BYOD Day of the year this week in our class. The children were so excited to get to bring their tablets and iPads to school and use them in the classroom. For our first BYOD lesson, we did a little research on Harriet Tubman to fill our a recording sheet on this important historical figure. The students did an amazing job working in groups to answer all the questions on the sheet. They had a blast and said they felt "very important". :)

Christmas Party

We had the best time celebrating the holidays on the day before winter break with a class Christmas party. During our party, the children enjoyed several different centers before chowing down on some delicious snacks! The kids got to decorate cookies and eat them, decorate ornaments, play BINGO, and play "musical chairs" for our class book exchange. We had a blast!!

Prior to the Christmas party, I gave the students their gifts from me. I gave the students their own individual white boards and I put their names on them with my Cricut. The kids LOVE drawing on the white boards in class, so I thought they'd enjoy having their own at home. Here are a few photos of some of the children with their gifts.

Christmas Play

The week before Christmas break, we had the opportunity to go to one of the county High Schools and watch a Christmas play put on my the drama students there. The students had a great time on our short field trip and even got to see Santa Claus!

Classroom Elves!

We've been having fun while Timothy, our classroom Elf, is visiting from the North Pole to keep an eye on the children for Santa while they are at school. They have loved coming in each day and finding where Timothy has decided to post up for the day. On Friday when we arrived, we found our whole room had been "Elfed" by Timothy and some of his friends! Timothy was trying to look innocent while he colored a picture...of an Elf!

Christmas Musical

The first graders at Hilltop Elementary performed a Christmas Musical this week for the parents. Mrs. Dooley had them well prepared and they put on a great performance! The dance moves and singing were wonderful. It doesn't get much cuter than this! Also, our own Lily had a solo and made our class very proud!

Thanksgiving Celebration

We were so excited to have our parents invited to eat Thanksgiving dinner this year with the kids. After lunch, we had the parents come back to our room for a Readers' Theatre presentation called the ABC's of the first Thanksgiving. The kids did a great job and looked adorable in their Native American vests and headdresses
